Clémence Hébert returns to her native town of Cherbourg to film what persists of her father who died alcoholic in his burning apartment. Some pictures, a few letters, family videos. Confronting those archives with the portraits of her close ones, she allows the past to meet the present in an attempt to revive what she escaped. The camera goes from hand to hand, from the parents to the children, from the dead to the living. Little by little, the film reveals the history of a lineage. Cherbourg is a harbor and the men of this family are fishermen. The father's boat is a film about grief. The mourning for a father, a childhood, a lost paradise.
